What to eat today

Breakfast: Parfait

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 container (8 oz.) low-fat vanilla flavored yogurt cup water
  • ½ cup fresh fruit (sliced strawberries, sliced banana, blueberries or raspberries)
  • 1 cup Original cereal

DIRECTIONS

  1. In 2 tall glasses, layer yogurt, fruit and cereal until glass is full.
  2. Top with extra fruit.
  3. Serve immediately.

Lunch: Mediterranean Turkey Sandwhich

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 tablespoons roasted garlic hummus or plain hummus
  • 2 slices whole grain bread
  • 1/8 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 lettuce leaf
  • 3 ounces thinly sliced, roasted turkey breast
  • 1/4 cup thinly sliced cucumber
  • 1/4 cup thinly sliced red bell pepper strips

DIRECTIONS

  1. Spread hummus on one side of each bread slice. Lightly sprinkle with pepper. Place lettuce leaf, turkey breast, cucumber and pepper on top of one slice. Top with remaining bread, hummus side down. Cut in half.
Dinner: Greek Shrimp

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 cup cherry or grape tomatoes, halved
  • 1/8 teaspoon dried oregano leaves
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon pepper
  • 3 ounces frozen, peeled and deveined, medium shrimp, thawed
  • 1 tablespoon sliced green onions
  • 1 tablespoon crumbled reduced-fat feta cheese

DIRECTIONS

  1. In small nonstick skillet coated with cooking spray cook garlic over medium-high heat about 30 seconds or until fragrant. Stir in tomatoes, oregano, salt and pepper. Cook and stir about 2 minutes or until tomatoes are soft.
  2. Add shrimp and onions. Cook and stir for 2 to 3 minutes or until shrimp turn opaque. Sprinkle with cheese.

NO MORE SOFT DRINKS!

Make it your goal to cut out soft drinks!! I’m talking like, MAYBE one a month. Yess, we all agree that they’re delicious and lurking everywhere, but here are some reasons to stop drinking sodas:

1. No nutritionally beneficial components whatsoever!

2. Your risk of obesity increases 1.6 times. 

3. It increases your risk of diabetes.

4. Erodes and stains your teeth!

5. Can damage your kidneys.

6. Increases blood pressure.

7. Can cause heartburn.

8. It dehydrates you!

So, in short, no more soda if you want to get not only skinny, but healthy, too.

Best Diet Tip

Keep a food diary!!

Write down EVERYTHING. Be completely honest with yourself. Do it immediately after you eat something, so you don’t forget. It’s just like keeping track of your finances, you have to see what you’re allowed.
